Do-It-Yourself BookBub

This week I used Amazon’s Free Book Promo.  You get 5 days per enrollment period.  I used all 5.  I scheduled it Saturday night before it went live, on a whim. Lets see what’ll happen, I told myself.

Day One of Giveaway


BOOM happened. As of this morning I’ve given away 4,464 units.


Step One

After you set up the promo, write a blog post announcing the promo. I did that here with a This meets This Title. Or, basically a very simple title that tells people “Hey, here’s two things your familiar with, and may like, AND… it’s Free!”

This helps people to make an easy buy decision quickly.  If they’re interested they’ll click on the links inside the post and go right to the purchase page.  Boom.

then I shared this post on Facebook, Twitter and Gab.  I asked my readers to share it so they’re friends could pick up a Free Book too.

They did this because they’re awesome and they liked my book.  Telling their friends about something they already liked was an easy choice.  A lot of them clicked SHARE.


Step Two

Now that it’s going mini-viral, a big newsletter with 23k subscribers picked it up probably to round out their list.  You can book some of these very cheaply for a Day 2 boost.

Step Three

Build your Platform.  I’ve been blogging every day since the begining of the year.  A lot of politics and no it hasn’t hurt my career.  My website stats are way up.  That gives my blog more street cred with Google.  Hence more search hits.  And… more sales and oh what’s this… he’s giving away a free book.  Wow!  I’ll check it out.  Maybe I’ll post it around so everyone can get a Free Book.

Last 30 days of regular blogging on the left and it’s effect compared to the last year to the right.



That’s three steps you can follow to build your own little BookBub and save yourself between $500-$2000 bucks.  Generally, after a Free giveaway sales increase from 50-80%.

Oh… and that book is still free Today.  So give this post a share with your writer friends who could use a boost in sales, and your readers who might like a good book about a a romance set in the time of Zombies to read this weekend.  Trust me, they’ll dig it and you’ll raise your brand loyalty confidence with them.  Believe it or not… it’ll help you sell your books down the road.

  1. Yes, I did this for my birthday december 13th, 4 day promo, working with a few different outlets. Released book 2 on the 20th and had my last day free then. Worked a treat and really bumped sales, and reads afterwards, it’s still ticking over nicely. The best thing I’ve learned is the more you have out there, the better, more things to see, and read. 🙂 great blog too.

    • I share your books even when they’re not on sale, because, you know… that’s how I roll. And I think they are worth sharing because you’ve got a Beautiful Mind.

      But… alas, I did not help this freebie statistic because my internet has been on the blink. But I woulda’ if I coulda’!
